Swansea: There is one 12 month advanced training post in teaching consisting of one day a week of undergraduate teaching.
Research and Teaching in Cardiff
Research Associate Posts There are four research associate posts suitable for Advanced Training in Research. Post holders are required to do their full on-call duties but all other committments are to research. Post holders will have an honorary contract with Cardiff University and will be expected to deliver one undergraduate teaching session per month. Placement in these research associate posts is dependent on agreement with the Welsh School and satisfactory progress through appropriate training modules. Posts are for 6 months in the first instance extendable to 12 months by mutual agreement after suitable appraisal. These are generic research posts and the current areas of research interest within the department are:
- Coagulation
- Immunology.
- Brain imaging
- Airway Anaesthesia
Lecturer posts
There are three lecturer posts. Holders are required to fulfil the standard on-call duties and will have two days a week for undergraduate teaching. These are one year posts but if staff are unable to fill them for a year then 6 month contracts are available. Post holders will deliver skills and simulation teaching for the School of Medicine. In addition post holders have the opportunity to assist in on-going simple studies (largely bench studies) in order that they may produce publications and presentations at the end of their post. This is a basic additional requirement of these posts. Simulation Fellow Post This is a new post providing invaluable experience in the field of simulation teaching. Trainees will do one night on-call a week and one all-day list a fortnight
Doctorate Lecturer Posts
Four doctorate lecturer posts are available designed to enable post holders to acquire PhDs.They are advertised nationally. These posts offer a 3 or 4 year PhD, during this time post holders will do one night on-call a week and one all-day list a fortnight in order to maintain clinical skills. Post doctorate trainees will work one day a week in the academic department while completing the clinical requirements to obtain their CCT. These posts offer research opportunities in medical education and areas supported by the School of Medicine's Interdisciplinary Research Groups:
- Sepsis research: both bench and clinical research
- Mechanisms of Sedation: investigations using advanced neuroimaging techniques
- Development of novel assays of haemostasis
- Anaesthetics and engineering : including novel imaging techniques for the airway.
These posts offer training in both laboratory-based and clinical research. All doctorates are joint-supervised by both a clinical and a basic science academic. Research and Teaching courses.
