RITAs

Record of In-Training Assessment

The 'Orange Book' is the best source for information regarding the RITA process. There are 6 RITA forms, A to F

  • RITA A is basic demographic data
  • RITA B is used to change anything on your RITA A form later in the programme - change of address etc.
  • RITA C signifies satisfactory progress
  • RITA D and E are required if there is a delay (form E) or not (form D) to standard progress which requires action
  • RITA F is the form to fill in while abroad.

The Welsh School organises RITAs four times a year in January, April, July and October. In general you will have a RITA nine months after the anniversary of your appointment with the exception of your end of year 2 RITA, this Rita is held 27 months after your appointment to ensure that all your competency documentation is available to the RITA panel for signing off on your SpR 1-2 competency certificate.

The RITA panel typically consists of 3-4 Consultants who will review and record your in-house assessments, competencies, log book and study leave over the previous year. In addition the panel will fill in your relevant RITA form.

On the day of your RITA you will be given the relevant forms from the school members present. If there are any changes required on your A form then the B form will need to be completed. The panel will want to see your portfolio and up to date CV. Following your RITA ensure that your records are photocopied on the day and that a copy is kept by yourself in your portfolio. Make sure that you see the Programme Director before you leave to ensure that any changes on the Welsh database are completed following your RITA. You must inform the Programme Director's Office if you cannot attend your RITA. The Dean has asked us to record absences of trainees who fail to attend. The RITA process is the main process of confirmation of satisfactory progress through the training period. Non-attendance is not an option. The dates are advertised well in advance and it is your responsibility to inform your department and service organiser that you have to attend a RITA and make any adjustments to the rota, if required.
