The next Educational Supervisor's Update Day
Will be held at the SWALEC Stadium, Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Weds 14th October 2026.

The New Educational Supervisors Day
The New Educational Supervisors training day will be held in the MEPA centre at the Princess of Wales Hospital on September 15th 2026. This is a valuable day for anyone new/returning to or considering becoming an ES.

Educational Supervisor Appraisal Meetings
All residents have an Educational Supervisor to support and oversee their training. Both trainer and resident work closely and can seek advice from the departmental College tutor and also the School of Anaesthesia. It is imperative that all residents have regular Educational Supervisor appraisal meetings. These must be uploaded to the LLP so that regular engagement can be demonstrated.
ARCP 2027 Dates & Checklists
All ARCP dates and revised ARCP checklists for 2027 have been published on the ARCP webpage and supersede all previous ARCP checklists - see ARCPs
Introduction of a submission deadline for the ESSR and relevant ARCP evidence has proved very successful. We will continue to share submission dates only with residents so that panel members have adequate time to review evidence. The actual panel review dates are approximately one week after this submission date for anaesthesia and two weeks after the submission date for FICM ARCPs and dual anaesthesia/FICM residents. All residents have been reminded to be aware of the time needed by both ES and CT ahead of the agreed submission date and remember that there are several other commitments trainers have.
Submission dates for 2027 ARCPs are:
Winter ARCPs
Anaesthesia Stage 1 - January 21st 2027
Anaesthesia Stage 2,3 - January 13th 2027
FICM (single/dual) - January 11th 2027
Summer ARCPs
Anaesthesia Stage 1 - June 25th 2027
Anaesthesia Stage 2,3 - June 17th 2027
FICM (dual/single/non anaesthesia) - June 22nd 2027
All dual anaes/ICM residents of any grade will now have both portfolios reviewed at ARCPs by a joint anaes/ICM panel on one date.
All LLP evidence, including the ESSR, must be present to view by the advertised submission date - therefore please co-ordinate the date for ESSR completion with your resident as early as possible. Residents who do not submit their evidence by the submission deadline are likely to receive an Outcome 5, followed by an Outcome 2.
All ARCPs will be held in absence.
In the event of an unsatisfactory outcome, a virtual meeting will be arranged within the next 10 day period with the Head of School and Training Programme Director. These dates are to be confirmed.

Professional Support Unit
The Professional Support Unit (PSU) supports all doctors and dentists in training in Wales to maximise training opportunities. PSU provides guidance, information and training to all parties involved in postgraduate medical and dental training.
