NEW - School FAQs on Study Leave requests

The Study Leave FAQs document is designed to support decision making and developing a consistent approach across Wales for residents. The FAQs is not an exhaustive list and there will continue to be individual discussions between residents, college tutors and the School. Peer Mentor training. June 2nd 2026

The Welsh School of Anaesthesia alongside the Professional Support Unit are offering free, formal mentorship training. This would enable you to become a recognised peer mentor supporting fellow resident anaesthetic trainees in Wales in their return to work. The peer mentoring scheme is one of the Welsh School of Anaesthesia initiatives aiming to improve the support offered to trainees returning to work from prolonged leave for whatever reason. Advanced communication in Critical care and Anaesthesia

A novel communication skills study day for Stage 2-3 residents in Anaesthesia or FICM is being run in May 2026. Drs Lewys Winfield Young and Mike Cooper are reaching out to advertise a really exciting educational opportunity opportunity this May. We rarely get the chance to practise how we communicate — or to really think about the language we use in clinical practice. The words we choose shape our working relationships, influence how families understand what’s happening, and can stay with patients and relatives long after the clinical details are forgotten. NEW- Stage 3 Checklist guidance document

The School have produced a checklist guidance document to support residents in Stage 3 successfully completing all aspects listed on the Stage 3 checklist. The guidance details specific areas focussing on the mandatory requirements and the level of work and evidence that is required to achieve CCT. We hope this will add clarity on what ARCP panels are looking for when reviewing portfolios of evidence. Further support will be available from college tutors and educational supervisors within Health Boards.
